Throughout school and university, I thought I wanted to be a commercial lawyer. The fact that I now work in automotive PR tells you all you need to know about my suitability for that particular career. In fact, it only took me nine months into my first job to realise that I was better suited to something more creative and less…dull.
My first role after making the transition into media and communications was as an editorial assistant at Hamerville Media Group. Over the five years that followed, I worked my way up to being group editor of the company’s automotive division, overseeing three print publications, three websites and a national trade show. Having such responsibility at a relatively tender age was invaluable experience, and it taught me the value of having the courage of your convictions and just getting stuck in.
My daily dealings with PR companies during my time as an editor eventually convinced me that I should take my next step and go ‘to the dark side’, so I joined Torque in July 2019 and haven’t looked back. During my five years at the company, I’ve worked on a wide variety of projects, campaigns and client accounts – and no two days are ever the same. As I’ve developed in my role as account director, I’ve found that my strengths lie in the strategic side of comms, as well as relationship building and client retention.
